for everyone

Last Monday night, we were stunned by the news that Cris Mendez died.

Cris was a councilor for the NCPAG student council and a UP University Student Council representative. He was also a good friend of Ronald's brother. I didn't know him personally but from the shock experienced and tears that his family and friends shed for him, it was easy to guess that he was a good person.

He was the eldest child in the family and coming from a broken family, Cris dreamed big dreams for his family. He wanted to be a lawyer -- and he would have made a good one if he was not brutally murdered last Sunday, August 26, 2007. His lung was punctured, his bladder burst, his face full of lumps and his body covered with large, dark, ugly bruises.

It was not hard to imagine what he died from and who's hands blurred the future of those who depended on Cris.

To Cris, may your soul finds its peace in the Lord and may your memory remain a happy one to those who loved and cherished you.

To his family, friends and loved ones, I'm sure Cris is in a better place now.

To those who caused this tragedy, may your conscience never let you rest and may no sleep allow you pleasant dreams.

Justice for Cris Anthony Mendez.

You know what? It is a failure of humanity if we DO let this issue die down. The sad part about it is, there are so many obstacles on the way to getting justice served for Cris.

I guess the best thing we can do at this point is to just pray for him and all the people who loved him. Losing a loved one is such a tragedy, and it's an even greater tragedy if it happened in the manner that this guy did.

But more than anything, let's pray for those who did this to Cris. Ako ang natatakot sa magiging kabayaran para sa ginawa ng kung sino man ang responsable sa mga nangyaring ito. That's why we should pray for them.

We know what awaits in the afterlife those who killed Cris. Sana lang sa magiging balik ng karma nila, huwag madamay pati ang mga mahal nila sa buhay. Kasi mas masakit yun. Baka hindi nila kayanin.

Justice for Cris Mendez.

We will write about this. This tragedy. This murder. Loss of sleep is too lenient of a punishment for those who are involved, directly or indirectly.

Thank you for the beautiful words written here for Cris.

I felt very upset when I read another shocking news of hazing fatalities, although this is not new but it adds to the existing pain and sorrows of those who had been left with the same fate of their love ones. I am encouraging all those who become a victim of such tragedies to remain strong and determined to pursue the trail of seeking their justice. We all know that this is rather difficult, but, Justice must be served.

Rest in Peace Cris...

It's so cruel that another hazing tragedy happened again. Hope that words promising for the passage of a law abolishing fraternities be put into action. Cris, may U rest in peace.

You know what? You are absolutely right, I just realized. But then again, those people already caused so much misery. I don't feel like wishing them ill will do the world any good. There's already so much suffering in this world.

Did you know the latest? I heard that the frat who allegedly did this to Cris is planning to file a case against the UP Admin.

I hope we will all continue to ask for the truth in what really happened, to call for reforms from the fraternities, and to demand true and lasting changes. I wrote an entry in my weblog about Cris Mendez. It's titled "A Song for Cris Anthony Mendez - Blowin In the Wind by Bob Dylan). I hope you can find time to read it and share it with your friends. I posted it here: http://lestercavestany.com/?p=11

i don't study in UP, but once i heard the news, i felt devastated for Cris' family... i may not know him, but i know for a fact that no one deserves to be treated like that... i hope that those who did this will not be able to live it down their conscience (that is, if they have one...)

shame to his brods....a true brother does not kill his brother....for the sake of calling him brod....
flickerbot wrote on Sep 27, '07
Technically, he's not a "brod"... Cos he was still in the process of applying di ba?

though this issue lie lowed quiet a while ago, the trauma of the students who saw and heard his case still exist but then we assure you that not all fraternities are like that. he's just unlucky in chosing the wrong one....
